1. Who implements or administers the child sponsorship program?

Hope for Huruma and the Sponsorship Desk at Huruma Children’s Home work together to implement the sponsorship program. They know each individual child’s name, family circumstances, and needs.

2. Who most directly benefits from my financial support?

Huruma Children Home as a collective community benefits from your financial support. The Hope for Huruma Foundation does not give your donation directly to your sponsored child, rather we combine your monthly support with the support of other sponsors and donors to help meet the needs of all of the children at the home.

3. How does a child at Huruma Children's Home benefit from the sponsorship program?

The Sponsorship program provides for the needs for a child at Huruma including Food, Shelter, Care and Education. The program also provides an ongoing pen-pal relationship with his or her sponsor.
Food: Your gift helps cover the cost of food. Huruma provides three nutritious meals each day. The children also enjoy 1 to 2 breaks per day where they are served tea, porridge, or other snacks depending on their age.
Shelter: Your gift enables Huruma to maintain a safe, secure school campus as well as dormitories, dining, and common areas for the children.
Care: Your gift makes it possible for the children to receive medical care and provides for their day-to-day needs, such as clothing and school uniforms.
Education: Huruma provides education beginning in the nursery through high school. Your gift provides the school at Huruma with teachers, textbooks, and other supplies.

4. What if the child has unique needs?

The cost of caring for a child at Huruma Children's Home varies depending on the age of the child, his or her medical or other special needs, as well as other considerations. The staff at Huruma, including the full-time social worker and part time nurse will help identify if a child has needs beyond the basic care and adapt their care plan accordingly.

5. What is the role of the sponsor?

Our Child Sponsorship Program offers an opportunity to minister directly to a child at Huruma Children’s Home. The sponsor’s role is not simply to help meet the financial needs of a child, it is to participate. That is why we emphasize correspondence, sponsor engagement, and visiting the child in Kenya, if possible. • We believe child sponsorship is an experience that can change both child and sponsor. When sponsors participate and involve themselves in the life of his or her sponsored child, the world becomes a better place for both.
